Rescuers work to remove driver Stephanie G. Beasley, 53, of Amissville, from her 1997 Toyota Camry at about 7 p.m. Saturday (April 6) in the Thornton River. Virginia State Police Trooper B.R. Johnson charged Beasley with driving under the influence of drugs after her car, headed westbound on U.S. 211 at Burgers ‘N Things just west of U.S. 522 in Sperryville, veered off the road, through the Burgers ‘N Things parking lot, narrowly missing several (unoccupied) riverside picnic tables before it plunged down the steep bank into the stream. Beasley was transported with minor injuries to Fauquier Hospital by Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Company. There were no other injuries. Sperryville Volunteer Fire Company, Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue and the Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office also responded.
